In February, Marshland kicked off their fundraising efforts for the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life. Marshland formed their team to walk in the Relay and to participate in the events scheduled in Glynn County for the night of May 2, 2008.
Initially, fundraising began with Friday jean days. Employees paid $5 to wear jeans each Friday beginning February 2nd up until the day of the Relay for Life event. In addition, each department in the credit union sponsored a separate fundraiser. Tellers offered members the opportunity to donate $1 or $5 for a personalized star or moon posted in the credit union lobby. Other fundraisers included the Member Service Department’s Valentine’s Day flower, balloon and bake sale, which raised more than $400. The Loan department held a St. Patrick’s Day hot dog sale, and the Accounting, Human Resource and IT departments will be holding a yard sale later this month. In addition, the St. Simon’s branch raffled off three bicycles, along with Easter baskets and several gift certificates. The Gateway branch did its part by holding a Relay for Life candy guess, with a $100 first prize and the jar and candy as second prize. Marshland also sponsored an all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast held at Applebee’s restaurant.
Glynn County Relay for Life team captain, Jodie Drury, has a very special reason for her participation in the event. Jodie was diagnosed with melanoma cancer in 2005. Today, she is a three year survivor. “It’s more important now than ever to support Relay for Life, and I encourage everyone to join in the fight against cancer,” said Jodie. “Today, thanks to cancer research funded by the American Cancer Society, two out of three people diagnosed with cancer survive five years or more, compared to twenty years ago when only one in three survived.”
Please join Marshland as we walk for Relay for Life. Remember the date – May 2nd at the fairgrounds.
Donations are also accepted at any of our branches. |
