The new SSI branch reopened its doors to members on November 15, 2006.
The opening was celebrated officially by a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended
by Marshland’s Board of Directors and committee members, ambassadors from
the Golden Isles Chamber of Commerce, members of the press, Marshland’s
management team and credit union members.
Located in the newly renovated space previously occupied by Coastal Cleaners
in Retreat Plaza, the SSI branch offers the same services as the main branch,
including share draft accounts, consumer and real estate loans, mortgages, CDs,
IRAs and a new drive-up window.
Elton Hinson, Chairman of the Board, expressed his appreciation for the hard
work of the credit union staff and his belief that Marshland is now better equipped
to serve the members on St. Simons. “I hope the St. Simon’s branch grows so
much that we’ll have to build a bigger branch in five years,” stated Hinson.

Cell Phone Use Prohibited Within the Credit Union
Cell phone usage has become rampant in the past few years. Not only are cell phones considered an annoyance by some people, but they are rapidly becoming a risk to security.
Advances in technology, which now allow phones to be used as cameras or e-mail portholes, have caused a great deal of concern over their possible use to breach a credit union’s security. In response to these concerns, the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA) recently issued a strong recommendation that cell phone usage be banned inside credit unions. After careful deliberation, the Board of Directors voted to prohibit all cell phone usage inside Marshland Credit Union by members and staff beginning February 1, 2007. Members are welcome to use their cell phones outside the credit union buildings at any time.
