This past February, Marshland Credit Union began their fundraising efforts for the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life in Glynn County. In addition to having a Wear Jeans for $5 Day each Friday, each department in the credit union had their own separate fundraiser. Member Service and Collection departments held a Valentine’s Day Flower, Balloon and Bake Sale; the Tellers sold paper moons and stars; the Loan department held a St. Patrick’s Day Hot Dog Sale and the Accounting, Human Resource and IT departments held a Yard Sale in early April. Overall, Marshland raised $6,264.16 to benefit the Ameri-can Cancer Society’s fight against cancer.
Marshland’s tent was the place to be at the Relay event held this year on May 2nd. Both kids and adults were lined up to sing karaoke to the tunes played by D.J. “JoBaby” Thomas, and the Hula Hoop contests were a big hit. Marshland employees also sold glow wands and glow-in-the-dark necklaces and bracelets. However, the biggest hit of the night was the Relay Beauty Pageant. Garratt Raines, son of Marsh-land’s Plastic Card/ACH Manager Teresa Raines, strutted his stuff along with other stylishly dressed male contestants as they competed for the title of Miss Relay.
Glynn County has one of the largest Relay for Life events in the coun-try for a city of Brunswick’s size. Held again this year at the Brunswick Fairgrounds, participants in Brunswick’s version of Relay for Life walked all night long to support this worthy cause.
Marshland would like to thank all the members who contributed and give a special thanks to all the employees who worked so hard to make it all happen. Glynn County Team Captain and Cancer Survivor Jodie Drury said, “None of this would have been possible without the effort and teamwork of Marshland’s employees.” |
